Final Editorial Work (Prada/Guy Bourdin for Wallpaper)

This was our final editorial which we have edited through Photoshop and InDesign. We used elements of the Wallpaper magazines and features of their style such as a play on words title.

We used a giant inflatable banana which initially came from the prints on the Prada s/s 11 collection and the serealist, awkward and almost crude elements of Guy Bourdins work. The banana also helped to add an architectural, design element to the shoot which reflects Wallpaper magazine. The use of bright, clashing colours echos the bold, block colours of both Prada and Guy Bourdins work.

I created story board to research the three different elements of the project; Wallpaper magazine, Guy Bourdin and Prada. The story board allowed me to highlight similar trends or themes throughout the three elements and draw on ideas. From the storyboard I came up with a concept for the shoot and styling ideas which would promote the s/s 11 Prada line whilst drawing inspiration from Guy Bourdin and also appealing to Wallpapers target audience.

Prada S/S 2011

The Prada S/S 2011 collection sent models down the runway with flamenco style silhouettes in vibrant hues of orange, green, blue and radioactive violet. The collection, inspired by early 20th Century jazz with flapper style dresses accessorised with dyed fox tails, colourful platforms, striped bags and plastic glasses. The bana motif was particularly interesting with boxy prints of monkeys entwined with gold baroque swirls.

Guy Bourdin

I have researched Guy Bourdin for my current project and these images perfectly embody Bourdin's style.
"Using fashion photography as his medium, he sent out his message, one that was difficult to decode, exploring the realms between the absurd and the sublime. Famed for his suggestive narratives and surreal aesthetics, he radically broke conventions of commercial photography with a relentless perfectionism and sharp humor." A Message For You, Nicole Mayer.
